Can I use a standard Stanley knife to cut vinyl flooring?
Although it is technically possible to use a standard Stanley knife to cut Quick-Step vinyl, we strongly recommend against it for both safety and accuracy reasons. Using a standard knife can lead to uneven cuts, which might compromise the look and installation quality of your floor. As cutting vinyl planks can be dangerous, we strongly recommend using the knives and cutting tool provided by Quick-Step. These do not bend under pressure. Moreover, the concave blade prevents the knife from being caught into the structure of the floor, while the cutting tool protects your hands.
Alternative tools for complex cuts
- Difficult patterns can be cut with a jigsaw (décor up). Always wear protective gloves when cutting Luxury Vinyl Tiles.
- Alpha Vinyl is difficult to cut with a Stanley knife. You will most probably need, next to the Stanley knife with the concave blade, a handsaw/jigsaw/crosscut saw/plunger/table saw.
Safety first
Always follow these safety tips when cutting vinyl flooring:
- Wear protective gloves
- Work on a stable surface
- Secure planks firmly before cutting
- Keep children and pets away from the cutting area
